Chuncheon Jeungni Tumuli
춘천증리고분군 · 春川甑里古墳群
Provincial Monument

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are Three Kingdoms-period tombs distributed along the ridge of a low hill. Over time the earthen mounds that once covered the tombs have mostly been lost, and some of the stones used in their construction are now exposed above ground. In 1980, artefacts were recovered by chance from a damaged tomb here, giving a partial picture of the tombs' structure, which consists of a stone burial chamber built up using makgak-jojeong, a technique of corbelling the corners of the ceiling inward to close the space above. The Jeungni tombs of Chuncheon are important material for understanding the character of the tombs in this area.
