This Baekje tomb lies on the southern slope of a small hill. According to an excavation carried out by the Buyeo National Museum in 1983, the tomb is a stone-chamber tomb with a horizontal entrance passage: a weathered layer of natural rock was cut away, and within it a chamber was built of dressed granite slabs, with even the capstone completely buried below ground. The entrance passage is set in the middle of the south wall, and the ceiling is a so-called stepped ceiling, in which the upper parts of the east and west walls are angled inward so that the cross-section of the tomb forms a hexagon with its upper corners cut off. The entrance to the passage was sealed in two stages, blocked with broken stone and dark brown humus soil. The floor of the burial chamber is neatly paved with flat fieldstones of irregular size, carefully fitted edge to edge. Beneath this paving is a layer of sand some 10–15 cm thick, allowing natural drainage without any special drainage system. No grave goods were placed in the tomb from the outset, so that apart from coffin nails no other artefacts were recovered. Stone-chamber tombs of dressed-slab construction such as this one at Buyeo Taeyang-ri became common after Baekje moved its capital from Gongju to Buyeo, and this tomb, too, is thought to date to the late sixth or early seventh century.
