Gimsuon Bu Jo Tomb, Boeun
보은 김수온 부조묘 · 報恩 金守溫 不祧廟

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis shrine houses the memorial tablet of Kim Su-on, pen name Siku (1410–1481), a civil official of early Joseon. After passing the civil service examination in 1441, the twenty-third year of King Sejong, he became a scholar of the Hall of Worthies (Jiphyeonjeon) by the king's special order and took part in various compilation projects, including the Chipyeong yoram and the Uibang yuchwi. In 1471, the second year of King Seongjong, he was named a fourth-class meritorious subject and invested as Yeongsan Buwongun. Excelling in scholarship and writing, he rendered works such as the Myeonghwang gyegam and the Diamond Sutra into Hangeul, and his own writings survive as the Sigujip. The bujomyo, a memorial shrine exempted from the usual removal of ancestral tablets after four generations, was built by order of King Seongjong in honour of Kim Su-on's many achievements in translation and publishing. Originally located in Jonggok-ri, it was moved to Jisan-ri in 1664, the fifth year of King Hyeonjong, by Song Si-yeol. As it had fallen into considerable disrepair, it was repaired and restored in 1981.
