Hangyesa Temple Site, Inje
인제 한계사지 · 麟蹄 寒溪寺址

The origins of this site are not recorded, but it is believed to be where Hangyesa Temple once stood, built in the Unified Silla period and lost sometime during the Joseon period. Excavations in 1984 confirmed the site of a main hall, three bays across the front and three bays to the side, along with the sites of subsidiary buildings. Many relics from the Unified Silla period, including materials from stone pagodas, stone lanterns and stone Buddhas, together with numerous inscribed roof tiles from the Goryeo and Joseon periods, have been found here, showing that Hangyesa was a temple with a long history, rebuilt again and again from the Silla period through to Joseon.
