Dongnamnisa Temple Site
동남리사지 · 東南里寺址

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe name and origins of this site are not clearly known, but the artefacts excavated here suggest it was a Baekje-period temple site. In the layout of the temple compound, a middle gate, a main hall (geumdang) and a lecture hall stood in a line along a north–south axis, with a corridor running from the middle gate to the lecture hall. Excavations here have yielded a fragment of a Buddha statue made of steatite, a tile fragment carved as part of a halo, bronze fitting fragments, a bronze Buddha statue fragment, and various earthenware and roof-tile pieces. The Dongnamni temple site shows an unusual layout in which no pagoda or other building foundations have been confirmed, and it provides important material for the study of Baekje Buddhist temple architecture.
