Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA yuheobi (remains stele) is a stele erected to inform later generations of a place bearing the traces of a sage of former times, or to commemorate that person on the occasion of doing so. This stele honours General Kim Wan, a military official of the Joseon dynasty. General Kim Wan (1577–1635) was from Yeongam. In 1597, the 30th year of King Seonjo's reign, during the Jeongyu War, he passed the military service examination, and while travelling to the garrison of the Gyeongsang Province defence commander he encountered Japanese invaders. Despite being only twenty-one years old, he fought bravely and won a great victory. To commemorate this, in 1887, the 24th year of Emperor Gojong's reign, his descendants and the local residents together erected the stele. In 1981 the stele was moved to its present location, and a stele pavilion was built to protect it.
