This is the tomb of General Hwangbo Neungjang, founding ancestor of the Yeongcheon Hwangbo clan. The general came from a powerful local clan of the Yeongcheon region, which held great political and military weight in the late Silla and early Goryeo periods, and he is said to have built Geumgang Fortress to defend the Yeongcheon area. He rendered great service in helping King Taejo Wang Geon (877–943) found the Goryeo dynasty, for which he was granted Yeongcheon-gun as a sigeup (a fief whose tax revenue the state granted to a meritorious subject for his own use) and rose to the post of Left Royal Secretary. The general's tomb, on Unjusan Mountain in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, is a relatively large round mound, before which a stone table and an incense-burner stone are arranged. In front of the mound, to the right, stands a spirit road stele (a stele erected by a roadside near a tomb to commemorate the lifetime achievements of a king or high official); its inscription, originally set up in 1767, the 43rd year of King Yeongjo, was copied and the stele re-erected in 1947.
