This is a Three Kingdoms-period mountain fortress enclosing a valley and built around the summit of a mountain; because the peak extends down from the east, the water outlet was cut through the south-west valley, and the wall was built of stone. The fortress has a circumference of 567m, measures 182m east–west and 120m north–south, and encloses an area of 15,523㎡. From the water outlet to the end of the north-western wall, the rampart was built in double layers, with a moat dug between them, its course diverted to make it harder for the enemy to invade. Along the steep slope facing the Yocheon River, a solid wall 9m high was built, and at the highest point inside the fortress, its south-eastern end, the site of a jangdae (a command platform) survives, from which a general could look down and direct operations. West of the passage at the water outlet inside the fortress lies a flat area about 30m wide, where large quantities of roof-tile and earthenware fragments have been excavated, including tripod dishes, jars with outward-flaring necks, lidded dishes, and wide-mouthed jars, together with large quantities of Baekje roof tiles stamped with a mat pattern. Linked to Daepyeongri-sanseong Fortress upstream on the Yocheon River and to Hapmin-sanseong Fortress at Janggyo-ri to the east, this was an important area where the borders of Baekje and Silla met, and it is thought to have been a fortress that saw fierce fighting between the two kingdoms.
