This is a mountain fortress on Eungbongsan Mountain, which forms the boundary between Jangmun-ri and Eunseon-ri in Yeongwon-myeon, Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do; it encloses the Geumsa-dong valley and is built around the mountain in a double-wall system, consisting of an inner fortress and an outer fortress. Old pagodas and tombs are scattered in the area surrounding the fortress. The inner fortress encloses the eastern and western peaks, between which lies a flat terrace 427 m long. On the north side there are three water outlets, and on the south side the remains of a gate site survive at the centre. Inside the fortress are building sites and three spring sites, with pottery fragments thought to date from Baekje scattered about. The outer fortress has a circumference of 2,365 m, measuring 170 m east-west and 620 m north-south; its southern section was built of stone along the mountain ridge. There is a water outlet at the centre of the eastern wall, and inside the fortress to its west lies a flat terrace about 120 m long. A gate site remains in the valley to the north. Building fortresses with a double wall is a characteristic feature found at major fortress sites in the old Baekje territory, and this fortress is presumed to be the site of Gosaseong, the central of the Five Regional Fortresses of the late Baekje period (Deukanseong in the east, Gujihaseong in the south, Doseonseong in the west, Ungjinseong in the north, and Gosaseong in the centre).
