The Bannam Bak Clan Dae Lineage Burial Ground is the ancestral graveyard of ten members of the Bannam Bak clan, from the eighth to the fourteenth generation. They are Sajik-gong Bak Byeong-mun, Sangju-gong Bak Im-jong, Gyori-gong Bak Eok-nyeon, Jeongnang-gong Bak Jo-nyeon, Yusa-gong Bak Jip, Dojeong-gong Bak Eung-in, Sama-gong Bak Dong-gi, Hogun-gong Bak Dong-wi, Left State Councillor Bak Dong-seon, and his son Bak Jeong. Bak Jeong received the merit title of Meritorious Subject of the Restoration and the honorary title Geumju-gun for his role in the Injo Restoration. Among the cultural heritage of this burial ground, the epitaph on the spirit-path stele of Seopo-gong Bak Dong-seon was composed in 1707 by the eminent Nonsan scholar Myeongjae Yun Jeung and written out by Yi Ryeom, while the epitaph on the spirit-path stele of Geumju-gun Bak Jeong was composed in 1712 by Baekheon Yi Gyeong-seok — the loyal minister present at King Injo's humiliation at Samjeondo during the Manchu invasion of 1636 — and written out by Bak Pil-gi. The Bannam Bak clan traces its origin to Bak Eung-ju, the ho-jang (local headman) of Bannam-hyeon in Naju during the reign of King Gojong of Goryeo. It is a distinguished lineage that includes, from the early Joseon period, State Councillor of the Left Pyeongdo-gong Bak Eun; Queen Inseong, consort of King Injong; Queen Uiin, consort of King Seonjo; Hyeonmok Yubi, mother of King Sunjo; five royal sons-in-law; seven state councillors; 202 who passed the munkwa examination; 460 who passed the samasi examination; five renowned sages and ministers of Korea; Bak Se-chae, enshrined in the Confucian Shrine of Seonggyungwan; Bak Se-dang, a pioneer of Silhak (Practical Learning); Yeonam Bak Ji-won, author of the Yeolha ilgi (Jehol Diary); Hwanjae Bak Gyu-su, a forerunner of enlightenment thought; Bak Jeong-yang, prime minister and Korea's first minister to the United States; Geumneung Doui Bak Yeong-hyo, the first to use the Taegeukgi National Flag; and the independence activists Bak Chan-ik and his son Bak Yeong-jun.
