Samcheok Sugam-ri Tumuli
삼척숙암리고분군 · 三陟宿岩里古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are around fifty tombs distributed along the gently sloping, flat sections of a ridge partway up a hill north of Gwangdong Dam. The visible burial mounds appear circular, but most have lost their original form. The burial features were made by digging a pit into the natural slope, building a stone-lined chamber with broken stones, and covering it with five or six flat stone slabs. Fragments of Unified Silla-period earthenware have been found nearby, and given that the burial chambers are narrow and elongated in plan and are capped with flat stone slabs, the tombs are thought to date from the Three Kingdoms period or the Unified Silla period.
