Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krIn 1795, the nineteenth year of King Jeongjo, Jeju Island suffered a severe famine that left the people starving. Kim Man-deok used her entire fortune to buy rice and relieve the suffering of Jeju's people. To honour this achievement, villagers erected the Kim Man-deok Tombstone on 21 November 1812, the twelfth year of King Sunjo.
