Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krJiseokmyo (dolmens) are representative tombs of the Bronze Age, also known as goindol, and are understood to have been mainly the tombs of a ruling class that held economic wealth or political power. Dolmens in Korea are divided into two types: the table-style, in which four supporting stones are erected to form a stone chamber topped with a massive flat capstone, and the go-board style, in which a stone chamber is built underground with small supporting stones, covered with a lid stone, over which a massive capstone is placed. A total of 24 dolmens are distributed at Saebatdeul in Gye-dong, Songjeong-ri, all of which are of the go-board style in form. When the nearby Yeongbok-ri Dolmens were excavated by the Gwangju National Museum in 1982, their structure was revealed along with numerous artefacts, including plain coarse pottery, fragments of red burnished pottery, stone arrowheads, net sinkers and spindle-whorl fragments, providing important data for understanding the way of life of the period.
