This is a stone-built mountain fortress running along a ridge at an elevation of 425m, on the boundary between Goseong-ri and Deokcheon-ri in Sindong-eup, Jeong Seon County, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. The Sinjeung Dongguk yeoji seungnam (Newly Augmented Survey of the Geography of Korea) records that, five ri east of Jeong Seon County, a stone wall was built with a circumference of 782 cheok (237m) and a height of 8 cheok (2.4m), with a seonghwangsa (a shrine to the wall's tutelary deity) inside it, though by then half of it had already collapsed. The wall was built using slate; its highest point measures about 8m, while the inner side measures about 4m. Outside the wall, another section was built projecting outward in a ㄷ (U)-shape to strengthen its defences, measuring 5m in width, 6m in length and 3.7m in height. Inside the fortress is a flat area of about 500 pyeong (a traditional unit of area, each pyeong about 3.3 square metres), presumed to be a building site; at the spot now used as the entrance, stones that appear to be the foundation platform of a building are exposed in two tiers over a length of about 15m. On the south side of the fortress remains an entrance presumed to be a gate site, and at the highest point in the south-west there are traces said to be the site of a beacon-fire station (bongsudae).
