This reservoir supplied irrigation water to the Hapdeok Plain, and because lotus flowers bloomed there in abundance it was also called Yeonji, meaning "Lotus Pond". Today the reservoir itself has become rice paddies, and only the embankment remains. The embankment is a large dyke rising 7–8 metres above the flat ground and running 1,771 metres in total length. It was built by piling up earth, though sections repaired later with stone can also be seen. At its western end stand five stone markers recording the repairs made to it over time. The exact date of its construction is not known, but it is said to have been built by Gyeon Hwon, founder of Hubaekje, in the late Unified Silla period. Unlike the embankment of Byeokgolje Reservoir in Gimje, which runs in a straight line, the embankment here is curved, which makes it unusual.
