This memorial gate was erected to honour the achievements of General Jang Yun, who was active during the Japanese invasions of Korea (the Imjin War). The general passed the military service examination and served as magistrate of Sacheon. When the Imjin War broke out in 1592, the twenty-fifth year of King Seonjo, he led righteous army troops and won notable victories at Hamyang, Gaeryeong, and elsewhere, but was killed in action at the Battle of Jinju. The gate standing today was built in 1649, the twenty-seventh year of King Injo, on its present site, and measures one bay across the front and one bay in depth. The roof is a gabled (matbae-style) roof, which when viewed from the side takes the shape of the character 人 (meaning 'person').
