횡성둔내철기시대주거지유적 · 橫城屯內鐵器時代住居址遺蹟

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis site lies around Dunnae Middle and High School in Dunbangnae-ri, Dunnae-myeon, Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon State, in the far eastern part of Hoengseong-gun, some 30km northeast of Hoengseong-eup. Eight dwelling sites were found in total, three in District A and five in District B, but those in District A had been damaged by foundation excavation work, and of those in District B only Dwelling Site B-2 was fully excavated, as the rest lay beneath roads or private land. Dwelling sites shaped like the Chinese character 呂 (yeo), which survive in good condition, clearly show the structure of houses of the time and how it changed. The artefacts recovered include plain pottery and paddle-patterned pottery; iron objects such as sickles, knives, nails and iron fragments; stone objects such as arrowheads and whetstones; jade ornaments; and carbonised grain. The Dunnae Iron Age dwelling site, dating to around the 1st–2nd century CE, gives a comprehensive picture of the clothing, food and housing of Korea's early Iron Age people, and is an important site for clarifying the routes of cultural exchange and transmission in central Korea during the early Iron Age.
