Geumgusanseong Fortress
금구산성 · 金溝山城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a teomoe-style mountain fortress — a wall encircling a hilltop — built around the peak of Bongdusan Mountain, which forms the boundary between Seonam-ri and Woljeon-ri in Geumgu-myeon, Gimje, Jeollabuk-do; its total circumference is about 900 metres. The steep area to the north-west of the mountain has been damaged by the quarrying of stone, but the south-eastern section retains its original form well, with the stone wall also well preserved. The wall, about 2 metres in height, makes use of the natural slope, and on the east side about 100 metres of wall built of natural stone survives. Pottery fragments from the Unified Silla period and roof-tile fragments from the Joseon period have both been found here in quantity, but it is not known when the fortress was built.
