Sin Suk-ju (1417–1475), whose pen name was Bohanjae, belonged to the Goryeong Sin clan and rose to the post of Yeongui jeong, the highest office of state. He took part in creating the Hunminjeongeum, the original Korean alphabet. Having assisted in the Gyeyu Coup, he was honoured as a second-class Meritorious Subject for Suppressing Rebellion, and when King Sejo took the throne he was granted the title Dongdeok Jwaik Gongsin and made Lord Goryeong. When King Yejong succeeded, he became Wonsang, a senior councillor overseeing state affairs, and after settling the treason case of Nam I he was honoured as a Meritorious Subject for Suppressing Rebellion and Aiding the Succession. When King Seongjong in turn came to the throne, he was further honoured with the title Sunseong Myeongnyang Gyeongje Honghwa Jwari Gongsin. His tomb forms a pair of mounds together with that of his wife, Lady Yun of the Musong Yun clan, and well preserves the burial customs of the early Joseon period. In front of each mound stand a stone lantern, a stone civil official and a stone military official. The octagonal stone lantern is a form rarely seen at the tombs of scholar-officials, and it is likewise unusual to erect both civil and military stone figures together, marking this as a special case befitting Sin Suk-ju's status. The tomb stele was erected in 1897, while the stone statue and incense-burner stone are modern additions. At the foot of the tomb precinct stands a sindobi, a memorial stele recounting the deceased's life, erected in 1477 by his son Sin Jeong, Lord Gocheon. It is the oldest known example of a samyeonbi, a stele whose four faces are of equal width. The inscription begins on the south face, where the capstone bears the carved characters for "first face." The text was composed by Yi Seung-so, and the title of the stele is written in standard script within a ruled line at the top of the stele body.
