Do Eung Shrine and Surroundings
도응선생묘일원 · 都膺先生墓一圓

This is the tomb of Do Eung, styled Cheongsongdang, a loyal subject of the late Goryeo period, and of his grandson Sunson. He served as a civil official during the reign of King U of Goryeo, having passed the state examination and risen to the post of Munha Chanseongsa, a senior deputy prime minister. When King Taejo founded Joseon, Do Eung upheld the principle of "not serving two lords" and gave up his office, retreating into seclusion at Hongju, present-day Hongseong. Later, King Taejo, recalling their old friendship, summoned him and offered him office five times, but Do Eung refused every time. Admiring his loyalty and integrity, King Taejo bestowed on him the pen name Cheongsongdang. The two graves are each round in shape, with a stone stele standing between them. The date the stele was erected is unknown, but judging from its inscription it appears to have been re-erected during the Joseon period. In front of the stele stand a pair of stone civil-official figures and a pair of stone pillars (mangju-seok), with a stone lantern positioned between the pillars. At the foot of the hill stands a sindobi, a stele erected beside the road near a tomb to commemorate the lifetime achievements of a king or high official.
