Dolmens are the representative tombs of the Bronze Age, generally known to be the graves of a ruling class with economic wealth or political power. They have a structure in which a huge capstone is exposed above ground, with supporting stones, a burial precinct facility and a burial chamber beneath it. However, their form varies greatly by region and period. They are generally classified into the table type, in which the burial chamber sits above ground, and the go-board type, in which it lies underground. The Gojeong-ri Dolmens consist of three dolmens arranged in an east–west line along a slope at an elevation of 50 m at the foot of Geumdansan Mountain. The dolmens are spaced about 3 to 4.5 m apart, and all the capstones are of quartzite. Dolmen No. 1, at the westernmost point, retains its capstone and two supporting stones on the lower long side, but the capstones of the other two are partly buried in the ground, so their exact form and structure cannot be determined. The capstone of Dolmen No. 1 is irregular in shape but close to rectangular, measuring about 2.3 m in length and 0.8 m in thickness, and it is known to be a table-type dolmen; its supporting stone is rectangular and about 0.95 m long. Given the size of the burial chamber, it is likely that the body was buried in a flexed position or cremated.
