This mountain fortress stands on a hilly rise in Deunghwa-dong, about 2km from the centre of Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do; it is an earthen wall built to enclose a valley within its circuit. The fortress forms a steep slope to the north-west, and its summit occupies a strategically important military position with a full view over the Honam Plain. The wall is 840m in circumference, with the sites of gates on the east, west, south and north. The wall is 4.5m high on the inside, 5m on the outside, and 1.2m wide at the top. Inside the fortress a passage resembling a moat, more than 10m wide and dug like a ditch, runs around the whole circuit except on the east side, and traces remain of a storehouse for military provisions and weapons, along with several other buildings. At the northern summit of the fortress is a site believed to have been used for beacon fires in the Joseon period; it is circular and about 2.2m high. This beacon-fire site was linked, in the Joseon period, to the beacon-fire stations of nearby Chaeunsan Mountain and Noseongsan Mountain, matching the entry on beacon fires for Eunjin-hyeon in the Sinjeung dongguk yeoji seungnam (the augmented edition of the Dongguk yeoji seungnam, a geographical survey of Korea). Pottery and roof-tile fragments found here, ranging from the Baekje period through to the Joseon period, suggest that in the Baekje period the fortress served as one of the defensive strongholds guarding the area around Sabi and Eunjin, and that in the Joseon period it was used as a beacon-fire station.
