This is the burial ground of General Chu Su-gyeong (pen name Sesimdang, 1530-1600), a military official of the mid-Joseon period. In the 24th year of King Seonjo's reign (1591), he became governor (jasa) of Mugang in Ming China, and in 1592, when the Japanese invasion broke out, he petitioned Emperor Shenzong of Ming to send reinforcements under Yi Yeo-song (Li Rusong); he himself took part in the fighting as a deputy commander, together with his two sons. During the Jeongyu War of 1597 he fought in the Battle of Namwon, and although severely wounded in the Battle of Jeonju, he defended the Jeonju Historical Archive to the end. In recognition of his service, the royal court posthumously honoured him as a Hoseong merit subject and as Lord of Wansan (Wansan Buwongun). A gravestone stands before the tomb; the building once used for ancestral rites has disappeared, leaving only its site.
