This shrine enshrines the spirit tablet of Kim Geun (1579–1656), a scholar of the Uiseong Kim clan who was the first of his line to settle in this place. After five generations of moving between Yangyang, Jinseong, Anmang and other areas, the family's wandering life came to an end when Kim Geun, aged thirty-seven, settled here in 1615, the seventh year of King Gwanghaegun, and his descendants have lived in this area ever since. Kim Geun passed the jinsa examination, a licentiate-level civil service examination, in 1642, the twentieth year of King Injo, after which he gave up any thought of office and devoted himself entirely to scholarship. Jeong Hyeon-gwang praised him as "an elder of long standing among the Confucian community" (yurim noseong). Later, led by his descendant Kim Goeng, construction begun in 1791, the fifteenth year of King Jeongjo, took four years to complete a shrine building together with dongjae and seojae, the east and west study quarters, and a lecture hall, amounting to some twenty kan (bays) in all. Today only the shrine building, Yeongmosa, and two jeongsa (study hall) buildings remain.
