Yeongil Naengsu-ri Ancient Tomb
영일 냉수리 고분 · 迎日 冷水里 古墳

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a stone-chamber tomb with a horizontal entrance passage, built during the Silla period in the first half of the sixth century, and excavated south of the Hangang River. Its structure is exceptionally large and has an unusual internal layout. A side chamber is attached to the main stone chamber, suggesting that the tomb was used for successive burials over time. A subsidiary chamber is attached to the side of the entrance passage (yeondo), and two niches are set into the walls of the main chamber. Although the tomb had been looted, many artefacts were recovered, including a coffin ornament, dangling gilt-bronze pendants (yeongnak) and a gold ring, suggesting that it was the tomb of a member of the ruling class of this region. More than 86 other tombs are distributed around the Naengsu-ri tombs in addition to this one, making them an important resource for research.
