Nammijilbuseong Fortress
남미질부성 · 南彌秩夫城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krNammijilbuseong Fortress was built using a hill that rises from the plain south of Heunghae-eup, Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province. Its walls are earthen ramparts of packed earth, with a circumference of about 2km, making it a large-scale fortress. Inside the fortress lies Motsan Village in Namseong-ri, and on the hillside to the west of this village some seven to nine tombs said to belong to the fortress's lords survive. Records state that there were one pond and three wells for use by those living inside the fortress, though today only one pond and one well remain. According to the Silla Annals of the Samguk sagi, in the ninth month people were mobilised to build twelve fortresses, including Pariseong, Misilseong and Jindeokseong. Misilseong here is thought to refer to this fortress, indicating that its construction dates from that time.
