Seocheonjangam Hermitage Garrison Fort
서천장암진성 · 舒川長巖鎭城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krJangamjinseong, in Seocheon County, South Chungcheong Province, stands at the south-western end of Humangsan, a hill 90.1m above sea level, and is closer to a fortress built on flat ground than to a mountain fortress. Its wall has a perimeter of 640m, measuring 190m east to west and 100m north to south, forming a shape close to a trapezoid, with one gate site each in the south wall and the north wall. About 5–7m from the east wall lies a moat, a surrounding ditch some 4m wide and 1.2m deep, while the west wall was largely demolished during the Japanese colonial period and its original form barely survives. Jangamjinseong was the name used for the fortress in the Goryeo period; in the Joseon period it was called Seocheonpo-eupseong or Seocheonpojinseong. According to the Sinjeung Dongguk yeoji seungnam (Newly Augmented Survey of the Geography of Korea), it was completed in the 9th year of King Jungjong of Joseon (1514).
