This is the former site of Bogwangsa Temple, located about 1.5km up the valley in front of the Bogwang branch of Gasin Elementary School. A large quantity of roof-tile fragments and stones once used as components of a stone pagoda remain in the area. According to the inscription on the Stele for State Preceptor Daebogwang (Treasure No. 107), now kept in the Buyeo National Museum, Bogwangsa was greatly expanded when State Preceptor Wonmyeong came to the site in 1336, the fifth year of King Chungsuk of Goryeo; the temple is recorded as having had some 500 kan (bays) of buildings at that time, showing that it was a temple of considerable scale. Another inscription records that after the temple burned down during the Japanese invasions of 1592–98, monks had the inscription carved in 1750, the 26th year of King Yeongjo, suggesting that Bogwangsa continued to exist at least until around the time of that war. Around the temple site, Goryeo-period stone lanterns, the body and roof stone of a stone pagoda, a pedestal-shaped stone shaft, a stone trough, and eave-end roof tiles have been excavated, and the stele has been moved to the Buyeo National Museum for safekeeping.
