Ungpo-ri Tumuli
웅포리고분군 · 熊浦里古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are tombs situated on the southern slope of a ridge running west from Mount Hamnasan. About 60 Baekje-period tombs are distributed across the site, of which roughly 30 have been excavated. The tombs are of mixed construction, including pit-style stone-lined tombs, front-opening stone chamber tombs, tunnel-entry stone chamber tombs, and jar-coffin burials. Around 100 artefacts have been recovered, including gilt-bronze earrings, earthenware and iron knives; most are Baekje items, and some resemble finds from the Ipjeom-ri tombs in Iksan (Historic Site No. 347). On this basis, the tombs can be dated as early as the mid-5th century. At Ungpo-ri, pit-style and front-opening tombs — types associated with indigenous local groups — are found together with stone chamber tombs associated with the central Baekje power, making this an important body of evidence for understanding the relationship between Baekje's central authority and local indigenous forces.
