Yeongam Jangcheolliseonsajugeoji Site
영암장천리선사주거지 · 靈岩長川里先史住居址

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the remains of a Bronze Age dwelling site, located along the roadside in front of Goeeum Village, Jangcheon-ri, about 500m southeast of the Seoho-myeon township office. The pit-house remains are 4.3–5.2m in diameter and circular to oval in shape. There is a shallow pit at the centre, and postholes are set along the edge of the floor, a distinctive feature being the absence of a hearth or an entrance. Artefacts recovered include plain, undecorated pottery in jar and bowl shapes, together with stone tools such as arrowheads, spindle whorls and triangular stone knives. Excavated in 1984 by the Mokpo National University Museum, this is a site of a distinctive culture found only in the south-western region of the Korean peninsula.
