The tombs are grouped in two clusters around the summit at the southern end of Chilsan, at an elevation of about 90–100m. Excavation by the museum of Kyungsung University in 1987 revealed that the northern cluster consists of about ten large vertical-pit stone-lined tombs, while the southern cluster contains dozens of smaller vertical-pit stone-lined tombs mixed with wooden-chamber pit tombs. Many artefacts were excavated, including pottery, ironware and personal ornaments, and the site well illustrates the changes in Gaya burial customs and artefacts from the late 3rd century through to the 6th century.
