This is a temoe-style earthen fortress, built by encircling a hilltop with earth, enclosing the summit of Ongnyeobong Peak, 60m above sea level, southeast of Gongsanseong Fortress in Gongju, South Chungcheong Province. The wall is about 870m long, but most of it has collapsed, leaving little of its original form traceable. The surviving northern wall stands about 2m high, with an inner height of 0.7m and a top width of about 2m. The southern wall barely survives, and the western wall joins Gongsanseong Fortress. The overall plan is closer to an oval than a rectangle, and it makes maximum use of the natural terrain to achieve an effect far higher than its actual height. Fragments of Baekje pottery and roof tiles found inside the fortress suggest that buildings once stood there. From the fortress, the national road between Gongju and Nonsan can be seen to the east; to the west the view is blocked by Gongsanseong Fortress; and to the north the Geumgang River is visible. Given the fortress's location, the artefacts found within it, and its wall construction methods, it is thought to have served chiefly as an auxiliary fortress attached to Gongsanseong Fortress.
