This is the site associated with Baek Jang, a Neo-Confucian scholar of the late Goryeo period. Baek Jang studied under Jeong Mong-ju and, during the reign of King Gongmin of Goryeo (r. 1351–1374), rose to the post of daejehak, a senior scholarly office overseeing the royal library and court documents. After Yi Seong-gye founded Joseon he was offered an official post, but he refused it, saying he could not take part in the founding of Joseon, and was exiled. The site contains his tomb, a sindobi — a memorial stele erected beside the tomb of a king or high official to commemorate their lifetime achievements — set up in 1850, and a shrine built in 1960.
