Susanje was an irrigation reservoir in Miryang, South Gyeongsang Province, believed to have been built during the Proto-Three Kingdoms period. The Sejong sillok jiriji (Geographical Appendix to the Annals of King Sejong) and the Sin-dongguk yeoji seungnam record that its embankment was repaired several times in later periods, but it is said to have fallen into disrepair and disuse after the Imjin War (1592). Part of the embankment, made of yellow clay soil, survived until 1928, but it has since disappeared and the reservoir site has become rice paddies. The embankment was built to hold back floodwaters from the Yongjingang River, a tributary of the Nakdonggang River, and a water gate was cut into the natural bedrock near Susan-ri, San 524-1, for pumping water in and draining it out; traces of this water gate remain buried in the soil to this day.
