Dolmens are the representative tomb type of the Bronze Age, also known as goindol, and are generally understood to be the graves of a ruling class with economic wealth or political power. Korean dolmens are divided into the table type, in which four support stones are set upright to form a stone chamber topped with a massive flat capstone, and the go-board type, in which a stone chamber is built underground with small support stones set beneath a capstone placed on top. The single dolmen surviving at Singi-ri in Yangsan-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, is of the common go-board type; its capstone measures 2.4m in length and 1.55m in width. The substructure of the dolmen has not been excavated and so is not precisely known, but a burial chamber is presumed to lie beneath the ground.
