Yun Gon Tomb
윤곤선생묘 · 尹坤先生墓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYun Gon (尹坤, ?–1422), a civil official of the early Joseon period, belonged to the Papyeong Yun clan and passed the civil service examination at the end of Goryeo. For his merit in the Second Strife of Princes of 1400, he was named a third-class Jwamyeong Merit Subject and enfeoffed as Lord of Papyeong. The guardian stones, stone figures and incense-table stone around the burial mound of Yun Gon's tomb are recent work, but the memorial stone and civil-official statues date from the fifteenth century. The memorial stone has a pointed head shaped like a gyu, a ceremonial jade tablet, and its front is inscribed: "Yun Gon, Jwamyeong Merit Subject of Joseon, of Sungjeong rank, Lord of Papyeong, posthumous title Sojeong, buried on the eighteenth day of the seventh month, imin year of the Yongle era (1422)." The stele erected beside the mound dates from 1869. The civil-official statues were made in the style of the early fifteenth century, and a stone lantern made at the same time was stolen in 1996 and has since been rebuilt in the same form.
