This site in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, comprises a Baekje-period earthen fortification and, within it, the remains of Bronze Age pit dwellings. The earthen wall was built encircling the summit of a hill 120m above sea level, with a circumference of about 260m. The rampart was constructed by pounding earth into place, and traces of the posts erected during construction survive at intervals of 120–150cm. Outside the fortress, at a straight-line distance of 5–6m from the wall, runs a moat dug around its perimeter. Inside the earthen fortification are the remains of three pit dwellings thought to date from the 10th to 9th century BC, rectangular in plan with floors dug slightly below ground level. Each contains several hearths, and plain coarse earthenware and stone tools such as stone knives were found concentrated inside them. At the summit and to the north are two pits, 3.4m wide and 1.6m deep, believed to have been used for storing water, while to the south lies a layer of scorched soil thought to mark the site of a kiln.
