Sujeongsanseong Fortress is recorded under different names in various historical sources: the Sinjeung Dongguk yeoji seungnam calls it 'Gosanseong', the Daedongjiji calls it 'Unseong', and the Hoseoseungnam calls it 'Sujeongsanseong'. The western section of the fortress is well preserved. The highest parts of the wall exceed 7m, while the rest stands roughly 2 to 3m high, with a width of about 4m. Three chiseong, rectangular bastions projecting from the outer face of the wall, still survive. A hoegwakdo, a patrol path running along the inside of the wall, is 4 to 5m wide. The outer face of the wall was built of stone, while the inner core was filled with earth and rubble, raised layer upon layer. There is one building site within the fortress, and on the basis of its construction technique and the artefacts recovered, Sujeongsanseong appears to have been built between the 8th and early 9th century.
