This is the head house of Kim Seong-il (1538–1593), pen name Hakbong, a civil official of the mid-Joseon period. Kim Seong-il passed the state examination in 1568, the first year of King Seonjo, and held posts including jeongeon, suchan, and magistrate of Naju-mok. During the Japanese invasions, as inspector-general of Gyeongsang-do he brought the government army and righteous militias into cooperation, making a great contribution to strengthening the militias' fighting capacity. A disciple of Toegye and an accomplished Neo-Confucian scholar in his own right, his scholarship went on to have a great influence on the academic tradition of the Yeongnam School. The house consists of a single-row main hall, a shrine, a gate quarters, Pungnoeheon, and Unjanggak. Unjanggak was built for the storage and display of artefacts, and holds Kim Seong-il's personal effects along with books and old documents kept by the clan.
