Yi Maeng-hyeon Tomb
이맹현선생묘 · 李孟賢先生墓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYi Maeng-hyeon (1436–1487), a civil official of the early Joseon dynasty whose ancestral seat was Jaeryeong, took part in compiling the Dongguk tonggam (Comprehensive Mirror of the Eastern Country) and was named a cheongbaengni, an official honoured for incorruptibility. The tomb of Yi Maeng-hyeon is a twin mound built together with that of his wife of the Papyeong Yun clan. In front of each mound stand a tombstone, a stone figure and an incense-burner stone. Between the two mounds stands a memorial stele bearing an inscription composed by Heo Chim (1444–1505), Right State Councillor, which his descendants re-erected in 1956, copying the original inscription exactly. The tombstone in front of each mound is a haryeopsu, its top carved in the shape of a lotus leaf. A pair of stone figures of civil officials (munin-seok) stands on either side of the mounds. The tombstones and stone figures date from the fifteenth century, while the other stone objects are of modern manufacture.
