This house was built by Kim Jin-yeong (1848–1924), pen name Haegwan, an independence activist of the Japanese colonial period. It is a relatively large dwelling with a square (ㅁ-shaped) floor plan, six kan (a traditional unit of length between structural columns) across the front and six kan deep along the side. Entry to the main women's quarters (anchae) is through a middle gate on the right. The anchae has a straight (一-shaped) floor plan, with its two-kan main room (anbang) facing the courtyard. The men's quarters (sarangchae) has a hipped-and-gabled roof (paljakjibung) whose roofline, seen from the side, forms the shape of the character 八 (eight). Its floor plan divides the central space into a smaller sarang room and a larger sarang room on either side.
