This is the tomb of General Choe Yun-deok (1376-1445), pen name Yugok, a military official of the early Joseon period. He passed the military examination at the age of nineteen and went on to hold a succession of official posts. In 1434, the sixth year of King Sejong, he was recognised for suppressing Japanese pirates on Tsushima Island and repelling the Jurchen around Hwanghae-do and Pyeongan-do, and rose, as a military man, to the position of Left State Councillor. From childhood he was known for his great strength and skill in archery, and an anecdote survives that once, while grazing cattle up in the mountains, he encountered a tiger and killed it with a single arrow. The lower part of the tomb is built in two tiers of large granite stones, topped with a round earthen mound. On either side stand two stone civil-official statues, and behind the tomb is another mound of the same form, presumed to be the grave of his wife.
