Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA hyanggyo is a local Confucian school established by the state to hold memorial rites for Confucius and other sages and to educate and morally instruct the local people. Jinsanhyanggyo originally stood in Eumnae-ri, Jinsan-myeon, on the site of what is now Jinsan Middle School, but after the Imjin and Byeongja wars it was moved to its present site in 1755, the 31st year of King Yeongjo, and repaired in 1780, the fourth year of King Jeongjo. It has since been repaired several more times down to the present. The surviving buildings are the Daeseongjeon, the Myeongnyundang, an outer three-bay gate, and a school administration hall. The Daeseongjeon has three bays across the front and three along the side, and the Myeongnyundang is a two-storey building of three bays across the front and three along the side. Overall, the school makes use of a slope steeper than is seen at other hyanggyo.
