Jillyesanseong Fortress, Changwon
창원 진례산성 · 昌原 進禮山城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a stone-built, valley-enclosing mountain fortress, in which the wall runs along the ridges surrounding a valley, on Bieumsan, which forms the boundary between Towol-dong in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Jillye-myeon in Gimhae. It was built during the Silla period. The wall, some 4 km in circumference, has mostly collapsed, but part of the eastern wall survives to a height of about 1.5 m and a width of about 1 m, and the sites of three gates have been identified. To the south of the fortress the mountain is relatively rugged and rocky, making access difficult, while to the north a long valley forms terrain that is easy to block off. Looking down from the fortress, the Gimhae Plain and the town of Changwon come into full view, showing that this was a strategic military site at the time.
