This is the tomb and spirit-path stele of Prince Inpyeong, Yi Yo (1622–1658), the third son of King Injo and Queen Inyeol of Joseon. After the Manchu invasion of 1636, Prince Inpyeong was sent as a hostage to Shenyang together with his eldest brother, Crown Prince Sohyeon, and while there he engaged in political activity such as reducing the quantity of tribute goods demanded. By order of King Injo, Prince Inpyeong became the heir of Prince Neungchang, a younger brother of King Injo, and during his lifetime he had already chosen his own burial site and had its stone furnishings prepared. That site lay beside the tomb of Prince Neungchang in Gwangju. In August 1693 the tombs of Prince Inpyeong and his consort were moved to their present location in Pocheon, and the spirit-path stele was moved there in 1694. The tomb of Prince Inpyeong has a mound ringed with retaining stones and enclosed by a low curved wall; in front of it are arranged, in order, a grave marker (erected in 1658), a spirit-repose stone, an offering table and an incense-burner stone. Before the offering table stands a stone lantern, and to either side stand stone figures of page boys, a pair of ornamental stone pillars, and stone figures of civil officials. In front of the western civil-official figure and stone pillar is placed a stone thought to be a stand for wine vessels, and outside the curved wall on the east side stands a tortoise-shaped stele base without its shaft. To the south-east of the burial ground, inside a stele pavilion, stand steles inscribed with royal eulogies composed by Kings Hyojong, Sukjong, Yeongjo and Jeongjo, while the spirit-path stele itself stands due south of the mound. The spirit-path stele, its shaft topped with a carved dragon and set on a tortoise-shaped base, was erected in 1658 by order of King Hyojong; its inscription was composed by Yi Gyeong-seok, written out by O Jun, with its seal-script title by O Jeong-il.
