낙안읍성노거수 · 樂安邑城內老巨樹

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe ancient trees within Nagan Fortress in Seungju are trees planted along the walls and within the walled area of Naganeupseong, comprising fifteen trees in total: three ginkgo trees, six hackberry trees, three Aphananthe aspera trees, two hornbeam trees, and one zelkova tree. Along about 150m of wall behind the Guest House there are ten trees in all — five hackberry, two Aphananthe aspera, two hornbeam and one zelkova. To the east of the Guest House stands one hackberry tree, and in the yard behind the Guest House stands one large Aphananthe aspera tree. A ginkgo tree has also been planted at each of three further spots: 50m southwest of the east gate of Naganeupseong, 110m south of the Guest House in Namnae-ri, and 130m southwest of the Guest House. The trees vary considerably in size. Those with a girth of over 3m, estimated at more than 200 years old, include five hackberry, two ginkgo, one zelkova and two Aphananthe aspera trees, while those thought to be over 300 years old number about one Aphananthe aspera, one hackberry and one ginkgo tree. Nagan Fortress was built in 1626, the fourth year of King Injo, and it is thought that the trees over 300 years old may have been planted at that time to mark its construction. The ancient trees of Nagan Fortress in Seungju add further beauty to the fortress and its surroundings today, and their shade serves villagers as a resting place. They have also been designated and protected as a monument for their great age and their value as material for biological research.
