Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the first Proto-Three Kingdoms period village site excavated in northern Gyeonggi-do. Excavation identified five Proto-Three Kingdoms dwelling sites and one storage pit, along with the remains of a Joseon-period building. Even before the excavation, plain earthenware and a half-moon-shaped stone knife from the Bronze Age had been collected in the vicinity, leading to the site's designation in 1993, under the name 'Pocheon Yeongsong-ri Prehistoric Site', as Gyeonggi-do Monument No. 140. The site lies on an alluvial plain along the Yeongpyeongcheon Stream, a tributary of the Hantangang River. Most of the Proto-Three Kingdoms dwelling sites were found damaged, but they take the form of semi-subterranean houses with a convex, '凸'-shaped floor plan and an entrance projecting to the south. The dwellings measure 5.8–8 m along their long axis, a small-to-medium size for dwellings of this period. Inside them, single-line ondol flues for heating, hearths and postholes were identified. Notably, in Dwelling No. 1 a hard-fired plain earthenware vessel was found still resting on a stone pot-stand at the hearth of the flue, revealing the cooking methods used at the time. Outside the dwellings, three earthenware vessels covered with stone lids were found, judged to be storage jars deposited in the storage pit. Everyday vessels for cooking and storage, such as jars and pots, were excavated from the dwellings, but no iron implements were found. Judging from the character of these finds and the form of the dwellings, the site is thought to be a village dating to around the 2nd century AD.
