Okcheonsa Temple, on Yeonhwasan Mountain, was built in 676, the sixteenth year of King Munmu of Silla, by Master Uisang. As one of the ten great temples of the Hwaeom (Flower Garland) school, it holds Jabangnu Pavilion, a treasure, together with the Daeungjeon Hall, an incense burner and bronze bells designated as Gyeongsangnam-do cultural heritage. Together with its three hermitages — Cheongyeonam, Baengnyeonam and Yeondaeam — and the sarira stupa (a monument enshrining relics) of the Venerable Cheongdam, all of exceptional artistic form, the temple draws some 300,000 visitors a year.
