Buyeo Geumsa-ri Cathedral
부여금사리성당 · 扶餘金寺里聖堂
Provincial Monument

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis cathedral stands at the centre of Geumsa-ri village. The buildings that survive today are the main chapel and the presbytery, two structures in all; signs of special care taken in their construction can be seen throughout, including the bringing in of craftsmen from China. The main chapel is rectangular in plan and once had a bell tower at its front, of which only the opening where the bell was struck now remains. Construction of the main chapel building began in September 1900 under Son U-gi, Kim Bang-su and others, and the cathedral was completed in April 1906, making it one of Korea's early cathedrals.
