Yeongam Geumgye-ri Tumuli
영암금계리고분군 · 靈岩金溪里古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a group of seventeen mounded tombs scattered across the gently sloping western hill that descends southward from Jangjeongisan Mountain, known locally as mal-mudeom ('horse tombs'), mol-mudeom, or mabun. The lower reaches of the Yeongsangang River are home to large jar-coffin tombs (daehyeong ongwan gobun), a distinctive tomb type not found elsewhere, and this site is one such location. The tombs take circular, oval and rounded-rectangular forms, and fragments of large jar coffins found nearby confirm that they are jar-coffin tombs, though the possibility that some are instead simple pit tombs cannot be ruled out. Most of the burial goods have been looted, but local residents report that swords and earthenware have turned up while ploughing the fields. The tombs at Geumgye-ri stood within the area of Baekje's Goi-hyeon county, and may be considered in connection with that county.
